W.J. "Jim" Barnett
W.J. "Jim" Barnett, 79, went to be with the Lord. Jim was affiliated with Greater Bethel Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He was a veteran of the US Coast Guard having served aboard the S/S Kittanning. Jim retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. after 30 years of service and was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his father Frank; his mother Alice; stepmother Eunice; uncles Will Brown and Ed Barnett; aunt Annie Mae Smith; sister Alice Marie Goodman; and mother-in-law Brenice Mills. Survivors include his loving wife Wrickey of 33 years; daughter Cetrina Smith; sons Yul (Toi) McLaurin and Richard (Tracy) Badgett; sister Tommie Kate Burton; grandchildren Felish, Cherly, Cerria; devoted Godchild Jimmy Johnson; devoted friend Mercer Mitchell; and devoted brother-in-law Cleston Morris Mills. Calling hours will be Monday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Funeral service immediately following at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Lakewood Cemetery.
