Walter J. "Robbie" Roberts

Walter J. "Robbie" Roberts, 89, passed away on June 7, 2006. Born in Atlantic City, NJ, Robbie had been an Akron resident since 1963 and had previously resided in Florida and Pennsylvania. He worked as a thoroughbred horse trainer for 51 years and after retirement as a bartender at Duffy's Restaurant for many years. Robbie was a lifelong member of Horsemen Benevolent and Protective Association and Northwest Avenue Church of Christ in Tallmadge. Most importantly, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He lived life with a wonderful sense of humor and touched all who knew him with his joy; he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents William R. and Norma Roberts; brother William R. Roberts, Jr.; and sister Maxine McNey. Survivors include his loving wife Janet of 42 years; sons Walter Roberts, Jr. and Jerry Noss; daughters Debbie G. (Jerry) Rinaldo and Sharon L. (David) Whitfield; and grandchildren Sarah and Hannah Whitfield. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Tariq Saleem for his care and friendship, the staff at AGMC, Select Hospital, VNS, and Hospice for their loving care.
