Walter C. Ross, Sr.

Walter C. Ross , Sr., 60, of Lakemore, passed away July 6, 2007. Walter was born March 9, 1947 to the late Charles William Ross, Sr. and Alice (Ball) Ross, both formerly of Lakemore. Walter was a lifetime resident of Lakemore. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1966. Walter served in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam and earned unit citations as well as the Purple Heart. Upon his return from military service, the Seiberling Tire and Rubber Company employed him for ten years. In 2001, Walter retired from the Lakemore Police Department after 35 years of service. He also served his community as a member of the Lakemore Village Council, beginning that service in 2001 and continuing to the present. His responsibilities on the Council included representing the Lakemore Fire Department. Walter was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. His interests included playing, coaching, and watching baseball and football. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, David Leroy Ross, Sr., Robert Richard Ross, George Duane Ross, Sr., and sister, Barbera Jean Yoder. He is survived by his sons, Joseph Michael Ross of Lakemore, Walter Clarke Ross, Jr. of Indiana, and Tyler Robert Ross and Colton Patrick Ross, both at home; daughters, Lori Marie Young of South Carolina and Brittany Lynn Ross of Massillon. He is also survived by his brother, Charles William Ross, Jr. (Betty), stepmother, Irene Ross, grandchild, Cierra, and good friends, Rona and Larry Kovacs. Family and friends may call on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
