Wanda J. Hawes, 70, of Akron, passed away February 24, 2009. She was born in Norton, West Virginia on September 16, 1938. Wanda was a member of Millheim Baptist Church. In her free time, she enjoyed Cleveland Indians baseball, Bingo, poker, and playing slots. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her father, Arnold Hornbeck; daughter, Jeanne Cogar and an infant daughter; sons, Dennis Hawes and Michael Wiseman; brother, Kenneth Hornbeck and two infant brothers. She is survived by her loving husband, William Hawes; mother, Sarah Currence; daughters, Karen Hughes, Darlene "Dolly" (Jim) Hanreck, and Deborah Hawes; sons, William D. Hawes, Jr. and William Michael Hawes; sister, Brenda (Bob) Whetherholt; brothers, Robert Hornbeck and Paul (Annabelle) Currence, Jr.; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Family and friends may call on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
