Wanda Belle "Wanda" Woods, age 89, of Tallmadge, Ohio, died suddenly on Friday evening, June 9, 2023 at Summa City Hospital in Akron, Ohio.
She was born in Cowen, West Virginia on November 26, 1933, a daughter of the late Clyde Harry Smith and Lelia Esther Smith.
Wanda married her late husband, Huling Odell Woods, on January 12, 1949 and they moved to the Akron area in the early 1950's. She owned and operated "Clipper Palace", a dog grooming salon for over 40 years. Wanda was a "country girl" at heart and over her lifetime she enjoyed country music, country clothing and home decor, traveling, camping, gardening, baking, cooking, trying out new recipes she'd find on the internet, and especially get-togethers with her family. More recently, she enjoyed Facebook as it allowed her to keep connected as she became more homebound.
In addition to her parents and husband, Wanda was also preceded in death by a son, Randall Mark Woods; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Woods; brothers, Leon and Leonard Smith; sister, Carol Smith; and close friend, Gene Kuntz.
Left to cherish her memory is a sister, Wilda Woods; sons, Larry (his wife, Pam) and Jerry Woods; grandchildren, Lauren Woods, Justin Woods, Heather Short, Sean and Kari Kessel; great-grandchildren, Xalynn Woods, Caden and Elliot Kessel-White; and many neices and nephews.
Wanda did not want any funeral services; she wished to be cremated. Those arrangements are being handled by Newcomer Funeral Home. If you would like to remember Wanda and her love of dogs, make a donation to a pet care organization of your choice in her memory.
