Warren S. Adkins
Warren S. Adkins, 84, passed away on February 17, 2009. Warren was a veteran of WWII, having served with the US Army and retired from Goodyear after 37 years of service. He was a member of the Airport VFW Post 8975, the Army-Navy Post 250, and the Goodyear Boating & Yachting Association. Warren will be fondly remembered by many as "The Cookie Man". He started his own cookie ministry giving cookies to the needy. His regular deliveries included the Summit Co. Chapter of the Red Cross, Safe Landings Boys and Girls Shelter, and the low-income food program at Annunciation Catholic Church. Preceded in death by his parents, Emanual and Florence Adkins; wife Irene I (Ihrig) Adkins; sisters Alice Martin, Irene Robinson, and Patricia Proudfoot; brothers Eugene and Wendall Adkins. Survivors include his sister Phyllis Thornhill; brother-in-law E. Neil Proudfoot; nieces and nephews Janice (Brian) Shriber, Michael (Cynthia) Proudfoot, Wayne (Sharon) Proudfoot, Phillip Thornhill and Becky (Bill) Herman; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Family and friends may call on Saturday, 12-1 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Safe Landing Youth Shelter or Annunciation Catholic Church.
