Wendell H. Tobias
Wendell H. Tobias, 80, passed away on December 23, 2009, and is now with his Lord and Savior. Wendell delivered mail for 9 years in Akron before being called to the ministry. He was a pastor for 34 years with the Church of the Brethren, serving congregations in Marion, Defiance, Kent and Goshen, IN. Born in Akron, he was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Emily Tobias; sisters, Marian Hossler, Martha Belle Dixon, Ruth Bittinger; and brother, James Tobias. Wendell will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Georgia Mae Lawrence; dearest children, Dianne (Bill) Jensen, Mark (Connie) Tobias, Suzanne (Terry) Holman, Ruth (Steve) Ovens, and Laura Tobias; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Galen (Peggy), John David (Donna), and Richard (Xinia) Tobias; sisters, Ida Jean (Glenn) James, Beverly (Ron) Petry, Janet (Wayne) Grossnickle; and numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Saturday, 1-5 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. and Sunday, 2-3 p.m. at Eastwood Church of the Brethren. Funeral service Sunday, 3 p.m. at Eastwood Church of the Brethren, where Wendell and Georgia are members. Pastor Jim Dull from the Chapel where Wendell was a leader in his Sunday School class, will conduct the service. Memorials may be made to Haven of Rest Ministries or Eastwood Church of the Brethren.
