William E. Martin, 92, of Akron, crossed over into heaven on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. He was born in Akron on August 13, 1921 to the late Melvin and Lucille (Babcock) Martin.
William was a people person who loved to talk to anyone he came in contact with. He was a member of the First Apostolic Church in Tallmadge for over 50 years. As head usher, he never came to church without candy in his pockets for the children. He was proud to have served his country in WWII as a medic aboard the U.S.S. St. OLAF in the Europe and Pacific theaters. William had three loves: his God, his family and his country.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Christine. William is survived by his beloved wife, Sara, of 64 years; daughter, Kathy Keller; grandson, Eugene Keller III; granddaughter, Melanie (Ben) Fouse; great-grandchildren, Alysa and Gabe Keller, Brittin, Mackenzie, Paige, Hope, Parker and Bella Fouse; sister, Alice Bosler; brother-in-law, Bill Witmyer; sister-in-law, Louise Jones; many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call on Friday, February 7, from 4-7 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Funeral services will be held at First Apostolic Church of Tallmadge, 199 South Ave., Tallmadge, OH on Saturday, February 8 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Ken Bulgrin officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Apostolic Church Building Fund.
