On May 2, 2020, Bill finally met an obstacle he couldn't overcome…COVID-19.
He was born in 1941 weighing nearly fourteen pounds. He was injured at birth and for the first year and a half of his life, he had both arms in upright wooden braces.
Early in February, he suffered a fall that fractured his pelvis and shoulder. After weeks of hospitalization, skilled nursing, and assisted living, he pushed himself to return home on April 10. By April 15, he was transported to ICU with the virus.
A graduate of Massillon Perry High School, he began his working career immediately. He worked at Cardinal Maintenance, Canton Maintenance, and Cardinal Environmental, but his last job was his favorite. He was a custodian at Springfield Local Schools. He loved everyone there.
Although work was central in his life, his heart was full of love for his family above all else. He was a no-nonsense dad who expected excellent character and strong work ethics…half-assed was unacceptable.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Verneda Eileen, daughter Holly (Steve) Reed, son Scott (Denise) Freeze. He was so proud of his grandchildren, Tony and Christina Reed and Nathan and Brady Freeze.
He is also survived by brother, Ed Freeze of Florida, brother-in-law Jim (Joyce) Drain, sisters-in-law Nancy and Barbie Drain, and seven nieces and nephews.
Thanks to all of our friends who have been caring and comforting at this difficult time. Also thanks to Dr. Neal Manning, the wonderful staff at Summa Hospital, and nurses, aides and therapists who cared for him during the past months.
There will be no services in respect for social distancing. He will be interred at North Canton Cemetery.
