William G. Kalapodis "Bill"
Bill Kalapodis, 81, of Akron, went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2012. He was born in Akron on October 7, 1930 to the late George and Thalia Kalapodis.
Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber after 42 years as a department foreman. Bill was a Mason and a 30 year sports referee for high school and college football, baseball, basketball, softball, and volleyball. He enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles, and automotive restoration. Bill was known as a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He was a longtime member of The Chapel. Above everything else on this earth, Bill loved his family.
Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest and Frank. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Maxine; children, William Kalapodis II, Vicki Kalapodis, Thalia (Daniel) Wisard, Jim (Vesna) Kalapodis, and Chris Kalapodis; sisters, Trula (James) Rowley and Katherine (Gene) Morrison; brother, Gust (LaBelle) Kalapodis; ten grandchildren.
Family and friends may call on Sunday May 6 from 4-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Visitation will be Monday from 10-11 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at The Chapel Green Campus, 1800 Raber Rd, Green. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by Copley VFW 7971. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Summa or the Alzheimer's Association.
