William E. "Bill" Garrett, age 101, of Akron went home to be with the Lord on January 27, 2025. He was born in Elm Grove, West Virginia on December 2, 1923, to the late William and Dorothy Garrett. He was a graduate of Hower Trade School (sheet metal trade) class of 1942. He was drafted into the Army after school and served for 3.5 years during WWII. He was in the Army Engineering division and received the rank of Sergeant. He married Violet "Jean" Monbarren and spent 72 years together, married 70 years. Bill worked for Weaver Sheet Metal for over 44 years. He was a member of Kenmore Church of Christ (Compass) for over 80 years where he served as deacon, was a Sunday school teacher, a trustee, and did maintenance. Bill thoroughly enjoyed family vacations to Myrtle Beach and his one trip to Hawaii with his sister-in-law Helen and brother-in-law Webster.
Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory his children Edward (Debbie) Garrett, Deborah (Jim) Zupancic, and Rodney Garrett; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Violet Garrett, brothers Bob, and Don; sisters Norma, and Elizabeth "Toots."
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 5, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10-11 prior to the service. Interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
