William J. Gibbons
William J. Gibbons, 77, of Pickerington, Ohio died at home on June 4, 2011, with his devoted wife, Rita, by his side. William was born July 9, 1933 in Jerusalem, Ohio. He was the oldest of five children born to Russell William and Hazel Imelda Truex Gibbons. William graduated from East High School and then joined the Air Force, where he served in the Korean War. After serving his country in Korea, William continued his education at Akron University. After working for BF Goodrich/Michelin Tire Company for some 30 years, William retired, but continued working as a senior system analyst for several years. William worked hard throughout his life and was blessed with many talents. He loved sports, and was an especially big fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. William has resided in Pickerington, Ohio for the past 14 years, where he has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. William is survived by his loving wife, Rita, five children—Susan Flohr, Kristine Riley, Dr. Greg Gibbons, Renee Lane, and Rebecca Porter—thirteen grandchildren, two brothers, John Gibbons and Howard Welch, a sister, Nancy Neuwirth, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. William was preceded in death by his parents, his infant sister, Lettie, and brother, Irvy Lee. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 9 at 11 am. They will be conducted at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 106 E. Howe Road, Tallmadge, Ohio. A viewing will be conducted from 10-11 am. Interment will be at Northlawn Memorial Gardens, 4724 State Road, Peninsula, Ohio. Bishop Scott Burton of Pickerington, Ohio will officiate.
