William Roscoe Knight, "Rocky", age 87, of Akron, Ohio, died on June 18, 2021 at Akron City Hospital.
He was born on January 5, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late John Q. and Mona Opal (nee Pugh) Knight.
Rocky graduated in 1952 from Hower Vocational School and went to the Navy Reserves. He worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber for over 25 years. Later on in life he earned his teaching certificate and taught machine trades at Polaris Joint Vocational and Wayne County Vocational.
Bill loved and lived for the outdoors. He had fishing licenses in 49 of 50 States. Some of his favorite spots were the Pennsylvania trout streams, Lake Erie, Big Pine Key, FL and Alaska salmon fishing. He also was an avid hunter and passed this love on to his family. Bill was an avid and accomplished and award winning trap shooter.
He was an exceptional athlete and played basketball until the day of his heart attack.
Our dad made friends wherever he went, everyone was a potential hunting or fishing partner.
Survivors include his children, Shari (Charlie) Bostaph, Bonnie (Marty Echols) Hudik, Mark (Linda) Knight and Timothy "Tim" (Elizabeth) Knight; his 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Other than his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Clark, Bud Knight and Leonard Knight.
Family and friends may gather at a memorial visitation on Sunday, June 27, 2021 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, Ohio.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Tallmadge Rec Center, the Tallmadge EMS and Akron City Hospital, they gave the family a chance to say goodbye.
