William A. "Al" Lavery was born February 11, 1949 and passed away on April 24, 2023. Al was born the second son to Bernard and Catherine Lavery. He was raised on his beloved Maple Street with his siblings and lots of cousins where he became a connoisseur of banana cake from Budd's and would often be found hanging out at Tony's Grocery. He graduated from Central in 1967. Al was the original Trekkie fan and searcher for Bigfoot and knew the truth was out there. In the meantime, Ancient Aliens had to do.
One of the hardest working people you would ever meet, Al's motto was to "make hay while the sun shined." He worked many years as a Foundry Man before he retired.
In addition to his parents, Al is preceded in death by his beloved sister, Anne (the originator of mailbox lunches); and his brother, Larry.
Left to cherish his memory is his friend, caregiver and mother to his children, Kathleen Lavery; children, Michael (Lynn) Lavery, Patty (Richard) Hawk and Nicholas Lavery. The light of his life were his grands and great-grands who fondly referred to him as Pops. Pops will sorely be missed by his grandchildren, Michael (Tangie) Lavery, Christopher (Missy) Lavery. Emily Hawk, Gabrielle Hawk, Willow (Pops' Wee Willie) and Zachary; and great-grandchildren, Adalyn, Asher and Devon.
According to Al, "It's all about the babies!"
Also surviving is his siblings, Paul (Cheryl), Brian (Donna) of Florida, Veronica (Mike) Oravec of Akron, Mary Lavery of Virginia, Liz (Mike) Klein of Oregon, Loretta Bodnar (Scott Burdeshaw) and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for May 20, 2023 at 1pm. Family and friends are invited to join us at The Venue at Al's located at 155 2nd Street NW, Barberton, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a monetary donation to Operation Smile, a charity near and dear to Al's heart, or a children's charity of your choice.
Please sign the online guest book and leave a fond memory of Al.
