William R. Lowery

September 16, 1931 — August 21, 2021

William R. Lowery, "Bill", of Stow, Ohio, age 89, formerly of Warren, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021.

He was born on September 16, 1931 in Wheeling, West Virginia, the son of the late William W. and Madolyn Dorothy (nee Neutzling) Lowery. His family moved to Warren in the late 1930's.

He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1951. Bill was a Korean War Veteran, serving aboard the U.S.S. Salem as a ship's photographer. After his discharge, he worked for several Warren photo studios and was employed at Grinnell Corporation for 35 years as a machinist. He also worked at the Warren Public Library as the head custodian.

In his retirement, Bill was known in the Warren area as an avid photographer; he was also an early member of the Warren Photographic Club. He taught photography classes at the Warren Y.M.C.A. in the 1960's and at various workshops. He won dozens of awards for his work in local photo contests and in local, regional and national competitions against other photographers. His work had been and is still exhibited locally at the Trumbull Art Gallery and Trumbull Memorial Hospital and his work is displayed at numerous locations around Trumbull County. Besides photography, Bill also enjoyed gardening, golfing and was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He is a former member of Optimist Club of Warren.

He married his high school sweetheart, the former Rosemary Potozney, on April 24, 1954 at Christ Episcopal Church in Warren. They had four daughters to cherish their memory, Patti (Steve) Shimko of Girard, Dr. Susan (Michael) Lowery O'Connell of Tallmadge, Anne Lowery (Tim Calvert) of Wooster, and Amy (George) Morgan of Bay City, Texas; his grandchildren, Scott (Nicole) Shimko, Thomas (Heather) Shimko, Katie (Chauncey) Breiby, Ryan Shimko, Jeffrey Schultz, and Brianna Morgan; and his great-grandchildren, Nicholas Shimko, Mason Burge, Preston Shimko, and Mark and Kara Smith, and Nevaeh Breiby.

Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Rosemary; his brother James E. Lowery; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Cremation will take place and Bill and Rosemary will be interred together at Pineview Memorial Park in Warren, at a graveside memorial service on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Fr. Clay Huffman officiating.

The Lowery family wishes to thank Crossroads Hospice of Akron, the staff of the Landing of Stow, and the care nurses and aides at Akron General Hospital for their kind, compassionate and skilled care, and Newcomer Funeral Home of Akron for handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be directed to the Warren Public Library or The United States Naval Shipbuilding Museum, PO Box 165, Quincy, MA 02170,
where Dad's beloved U.S.S. Salem is located.
