William Harrison Nees

William Harrison Nees, "Harry", age 89, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.

He was born on July 17, 1928 in Akron, the son of the late Paul and Thelma (nee Sawyer) Nees.

Harry served as a firefighter on the Akron Fire Department. He loved being a fireman and retired as a captain after 32 years of service.

Harry attended Gospel Crusader Church and enjoyed serving the Lord for many years. Most currently he was a member of the Forest Hill Community Church in North Hill.

Harry also served his country honorably in the US Army, during peacetime.

Other than his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his wife, the former Pearl Sullivan on December 8, 2012, they were united in marriage on July 1, 1951; and his brother, Forrest Nees.

Harry is survived by his two children, Richard "Rick" (Sandy) Nees and Sheryl (Pastor David) Shew; five grandchildren, Michael (Julie) Nees, Jason (Sarah) Nees, Aimee Bartholet (fiance, Matt Kyte), Brian (Stacey) Shew, and Michelle (Brian) MacLean; seven great-grandchildren and one on the way.

The family wishes to thank Harry's caregivers, Wendy and Michelle, for their wonderful care of him, while he was still in his home. They are also grateful for the terrific nursing staff and aides at Pebble Creek Nursing Home during his short stay.

Family and friends may visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, on Monday, April 23, 2018 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM and again on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM where his son-in-law, Pastor David Shew will celebrate Harry's life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Forest Hill Community Church, 724 Damon Street, Akron, Ohio 44310 or Haven of Rest Ministries, 175 East Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44308.

He will be laid to rest next to his loving wife in Woods Cemetery in Uniontown.
