William F. Newcomb
William F. Newcomb, age 83, of Cuyahoga Falls, passed away on June 17, 2009, after a lengthy illness. William retired from the Akron Police Department after 41 years of service, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant. During his service with the APD, he was president of the Akron Crime Clinic and represented the APD in the North Hill Akron Board of Trade until his retirement in 1990. He served in the US Navy and was awarded the Purple Heart. William was a member of the Akron Area Police Retirees and Widows-Chapter 25, the FOP Lodge-#7, and the Adoniram Joppa Lodge-517. He also volunteered with Summa for 14 years and attended First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls. Survivors include his wife, SuzAnne; children Deidre Williams, of Akron, Carolyn Burkoski, of Cuyahoga Falls, William D. (Sue), of Cuyahoga Falls, and Jim Newcomb, of Akron; stepchildren Mark (Becky) Beane, of Akron, and Michael Beane, of Cuyahoga Falls; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Joann Holmes. Calling hours will be Sunday, 2-5 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where a funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
