William R. Byrd, 80, of Mogadore, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his loving family, on April 27, 2011. Bill was raised in Burnt House, WV by the late S.L. and Lovie Byrd, and that is where he met the love of his life, Frankie (Lady Byrd). He was a faithful employee of Goodyear for 40 years and was an avid woodworker, sharing his projects with his loving family. He served honorably in the Air Force for 4 years during the Korean War. Bill will always be remembered as an honest and loving husband, Pappy, and Grandpa, always thinking of others first. He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his wife of 60 years, Frankie; children, Shirley (Ron) Reynolds, Jerry (Vicki) Byrd; grandchildren, Shannon (Jason) Smith, Sydnee (Don) Ortman, Travis (Krystal) Reynolds, Jaimie (Steve) Bennett, Megan Byrd and Adam Weininger; and 8 great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be Saturday, 10 a.m. to Noon at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., with a memorial service to follow at Noon, Pastor Rufus Hofelt officiating. Inurnment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, OH 44333.
