William A. Sarvis ("Papa Bill")
Bill Sarvis, 72, passed away after a three year battle with cancer at his home on Thursday, January 19, 2006, surrounded by his loving family. Born June 6, 1933 in Akron, Bill graduated from Hower High School and worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber for 38 years, earning the distinction of being named to Goodyear's Top Ten Supervisor Club. He was an avid golfer and achieved a golfer's dream when he scored a hole in one in 1994. After retirement he began walking several miles a day and had an uncanny knack for finding money on those walks. So much in fact, he treated his family to a vacation in Florida with his findings. He was an extremely dedicated husband, father and grandfather and attended Oak Hill Presbyterian Church. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, John and Tina Sarvis. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife and best friend of 51 years, Joan; son, Randy (Susan) Sarvis; daughters, Sherry Sarvis and Karen (Brian) Wagster; sister, Kathryn (Cecil) Stewart; brothers, Robert (Dee) Sarvis, James (Sally) Sarvis; brother-in-law, Don (Norita) Hinerman; sister-in-law, Sue (Nile) Williams; aunt, Evelyn (Elmer) Plouri; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Nothing in life brought him more pride and joy than his four granddaughters, Lauren, Kimberly and Rachel Sarvis and Jenna Wagster. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 - 5 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, 2406 Ardwell Ave. with Pastor Brian Nutt officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Summa, The American Cancer Society or Oak Hill Presbyterian Church. Special thanks to the nurses on the Oncology 7th Floor at Summa Hospital, Dr. Abramovich and staff and the staff of Hospice of Summa. Online condolences may be sent to www.NewcomerFamily.com
