Winifred A. Adkins, 87, of Crown City, passed away on May 16, 2023 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV. She was born on December 25, 1935 to the late William Francis and Minnie {Bing} Blankenship in Wayne, WV.
In addition to her parents, Winifred was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 64 years, Harvey Adkins; brothers Charles, Francis Carlyle "Curly" and Jack Blankenship; sister Mary Blankenship Motz.
Winifred is survived by her loving siblings Roger Blankenship, Helen Finch, Kathleen Cremeans, Patricia Graham and Jean Chapman; several nieces and nephews and their families.
Winifred worked as a teacher in Wayne County, and then Akron City Schools for a combined 30+ years, and was well loved by her students. She was a longtime member of Green Temple Baptist Church, where she was very active, especially in the nursery and with the Vacation Bible School program. Winifred had a way of lighting up the room, and her smile was contagious. Kids were the way to her heart, and she always found a way to spoil her nieces and nephews. She was loved by so many whose lives she touched, and she will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 11:00 am until the funeral service begins at 12:00 pm, all at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305 with Pastor Glenn E. Rogers Jr., officiating. Interment to follow services at East Liberty Cemetery, where Winifred will be laid to rest with Harvey.
