Woodroe Summerfield, "Woody", age 74 of Akron, Ohio, died on Sunday, November 11, 2018, Veteran's Day, at the home of his step-son.
He was born on June 22, 1944 in Ridgley, West Virginia, the son of the late Clyde and Margie (nee Laurence) Summerfield.
Woody was a 1965 graduate of Central High School and was a very proud honorably discharged US Marine, serving during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Summerfield loved going out to eat at the Golden Coral on Arlington Street, Monday through Friday.
Survivors include his step-children, Richard (Vera) Milhoan, Stefon (Angie) Milhoan, Gary (Roberta) Milhoan, Jeffrey (Jeanette) Milhoan, and Deborah Milhoan; his step-daughter-in-law, Debra Milhoan; his 10 step-grandchildren, and many step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two nieces, Tina Marie Kather and Amy Wagner. His best friend and dog, Snowball, a shitzu, also survives.
Other than his parents, Woodroe was preceded in death by his wife, the former Hannelore G. Doffinger, on February 26, 2017, they were united in marriage on December 24, 1981; his step-son, Roy Milhoan on May 15, 2017; and two brothers, Roemanas and Allen Summerfield.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 4:00 PM, where family and friends may visit from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron.
Woodroe will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio, with military honors, on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 2:30 PM.
