Woody Nelson

Woody "Elwood" Nelson, age 79 of Akron, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 8:55 AM at Akron City Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born on December 21, 1936 in Whitmer, WV, the son of the late Forrest and Hallie Nelson.
Woody was a member and usher of the Akron Baptist Temple and worked in the baptistery. He was an avid golfer and bowler. He loved gardening and being outdoors. Woody was retired in 1998 after 41 years of service from Diamond Crystal Salt.
Survivors include his wife, Doris; his children, Danny (Pati), Tracy, and Brian (Val); seven grandchildren, Tyler (Stephanie), Jason (Erin), Stephanie, Stephen, Ashley (Mark), Rachel, and Carley; two great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Liam. Four sisters also survive, Helen, Patricia (Don), Dottie (Joe), and Irene; sister-in-law, Susan, and many nieces and nephews.
Other than his parents, Woody was preceded in death by his two precious sons, Jeff and Kevin; his siblings, Shirley, and Richard.
Memorial services will be held at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron at 1 PM, Thursday, June 30, 2016 where Pastors Ernie Kemppel and Michael Prebynski will celebrate Woody's life.
Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM and on Thursday, June 30, 2016 from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
