Wynette Ann Carmichael
Sunrise: June 12, 1956 Sunset: June 26, 2022
Wynette Ann Carmichael, 66, entered peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, June 26, 2022, with her daughter, Melvena, by her side.
Wynette was born June 12, 1956, in Akron, Ohio, to Evelyn and James Charles "JC" Carmichael.
Wynette attended Akron Public Schools and graduated from South High School in June 1974. After graduating from high school, Wynette attended Gerber Beauty College where she received additional education and training in cosmetology.
During Wynette's childhood years, she attended Wesley Temple AME Zion Church. Wynette gave her life to Christ in 1995 and was baptized September 4, 2004, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church by Pastor Curtis A. Minter. She later became a member of Akron Baptist Church where she faithfully attended until illness prevented her from doing so.
Wynette was employed at the Haven of Rest Mission for over 24 years and was proud of her work there. She loved her job, loved her co-workers, and loved the daily opportunity to minister to others. Even despite her health challenges, Wynette wanted to go back to work, and she repeatedly asked every doctor when she could go back to work.
Wynette was a loving and committed mother, sister, grandmother, cousin, aunt, and true-blue friend. She loved deeply and cherished everyone in her life. If Wynette was your relative or friend, you could count on her for anything. Wynette never met a stranger. She had a passionate and beautiful spirit and had a positive impact on everyone who knew her. She loved to laugh and enjoyed life to the best of her ability. However, Wynette suffered so much during her lifetime and faced many life challenges that followed her for a good part of her early life. Her birth mother passed away when Wynette was just two years old and her dad passed away from alcoholism when Wynette was 17. She had challenges with drugs and alcohol for 15 years, but at the age of 32, Wynette made the decision to go to the Haven of Rest Harvest Home, joined Alcoholics Anonymous, and participated in an intensive outpatient program at the former Community Drug Board. She accepted Christ as her Personal Savior and dedicated her life to serving the Lord and helping others. She was eventually able to work part-time at a nursing home in food services, and then became an intern at the Haven of Rest Mission. After completion of her internship, she was hired full-time at the Haven of Rest Mission and was so thankful for the opportunities that this job gave her to help others.
She attended AA meetings faithfully, 7 days a week for 27 years, until her health prevented her from doing so. Wynette was so proud of the fact that she achieved and maintained 27 years of uninterrupted sobriety! When asked "what is her proudest accomplishment," Wynette would tell you "her recovery."
In addition to life's challenges, Wynette also faced multiple health challenges- sarcoidosis, breast cancer, two strokes, right hip repair, and two brain surgeries. But, Wynette never complained or asked "why me?" She faced each challenge with faith and courage, depending on the strength of the Lord to see her through. Her daughter, Melvena, provided amazing attentive, and loving care for Wynette.
Wynette fought the good fight and was an inspiration to so many. But, none of this can compare to the joy of what she is experiencing now- Wynette is well, whole, pain free, and at home with her Lord and Savior!
Wynette was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and James Charles "JC" Carmichael, and her aunt and uncle, Jessie and Moses Avery, who raised her.
