Yolanda M. Derrig

Yolanda M. Derrig, 84, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on July 31, 2007. She was born October 21, 1922 to the late Theresa and Luigi Scalzo. She was a loving, selfless woman who lived to serve her Lord and love and care for her family. Her giving had no bounds. She was a lifetime faithful member of St. Matthew Parish in Akron. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, David Derrig, Sr.; grandson, Gobi; great-granddaughter, Lily; brothers, Joe and John; and sister, Edith. Thankful for this precious gift and left to cherish her memory forever are her children: daughters, Terese (Rick) Garske, Kathleen (James) Lovorn, Louise (Randy) Beorn, Juliana (Rod) Wright, Mary (Blaine) Berkenstock, Rebecca (Curt) Simmons; sons, David (Judie), Donald (Cheryl), Thomas (Laurie), John (Tonya), Joseph (Leslie) and Stephen (Melissa); also survived by 29 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; sister, Julia Scalzo; brother-in-law, Dick Derrig; numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Altercare of Hartville for their loving care of Yolanda this past year. Family and friends will be received Thursday from 7 – 9 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew Church with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
